Championship Overview

The 2009 TM Master Cup Series season was a series of 19 races taking place all over the world. The championship was won by Leonid Roderick, claming his fourth Master Cup, putting him third all-time behind only Benny Dwyer and Arthur Thomas.

Preseason Changes[edit | edit source]

Following the success of the 2008 European tour and the continued increase in international teams and drivers, four new foreign manufacturers joined the series for 2009; Italy's Volpi, England's STS, France's Gasnier, and Japan's Nemoto. Their participation was somewhat controversial among purists in the driver and team ranks, particularly Volpi, which does not sell street-legal cars outside of Europe.

The European tour returned for a second season, complemented by the series' first visits to Brazil and Australia, replacing the Rounds of Seattle and Portugal. Besides these substitutions, the 19-race schedule is very similar to the 2008 calendar.

After a one year exclusive contract with Michelin, the series opened up the option of selecting one of four tire suppliers to teams: Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone, or Cooper Tires.
