BKR Motorsports is a TM Master Cup team that is currently running for the Independent's Trophy in 2013 with ARLA drivers Barton Sandy and Robert Nelson. The team is also known as BKR Australia.

History[edit | edit source]

2000-2005[edit | edit source]

The team was founded in the early 2000s by Jim Wilkinson under the name Blitzkrieg Racing (This is what the BKR in the team's current name stand for). Former V8 Champ Car driver Danny Savin was their first driver. The team became known for their back-to-back Karjala Grand Prix victories with Danny Savin in 2003 and 2004. The No. 91 they used became synonymous with their team.

2005-2009[edit | edit source]

After running a single Inglesby Flashback for the team's entire existence, the team switched to Volpi SR560s and fielded a second car in 2009. This car was driven by Alessandro Rossini, known as "Milano". In 2009, Rossini scored a pole in his home race in Italy, and Savin scored a win at Decatur. At Birch Park International Raceway the team fielded a third car, the No. 92, for Thomas Duke.

2010-date[edit | edit source]

For 2010, both Savin and Rossini left, for Hodges-Walter Racing and Squadra Corsa respectively. The team also dropped to part-time status and switched manufacturers to Fortner. The team also changed car numbers, to No. 119 and No. 120, fielding cars for Duke and series veteran Justin Brooks. Both Duke and Brooks struggled with the car and Brooks walked out on the team mid-season due in large part to the mismanagement at Fortner that caused the team's troubles. The team replaced him with sportscar ace David Wu. Thomas Duke had only managed to qualify for the Australia and DNQ'd his other attempts. Duke and Wu left at season's end, but surprisingly, the team reupped with Fortner, who had stated numerous times that they did not intend to return to the series.

The team changed car numbers again to No. 121 and No. 122 for 2011, when the team was rebranded Fortner Motorsports as part of a sponsorship deal. Their new drivers were Matt Taylor and Taylor Silverman. The team had a few strong runs, but management issues within the Montana-based manufacturer still persisted. Fortner left the operation (and the Master Cup Series) mid-year after being purchased by Lenard, forcing the team to run unbranded Omechas under the BKR banner.

For 2012, Taylor and Silverman were replaced by an all Australian lineup of Troy Adams and Barton Sandy as the team again used car numbers 91 and 92.

For 2013, after winning the 2012 TM Lights Championship, Adams moved to a full-time ride with Star Team Nemoto. Robert Nelson joined the team to replace Adams, with Sandy returning as well. Both will compete for the 2013 TM Master Cup Independent's Trophy. The numbers have changed to No. 05 (Sandy), and No. 06 (Nelson).
