The Michigan International Speedway (also known as MIS) is a two-mile (3.219-km) D-shaped speedway located in Brooklyn, Michigan. The track was built in 1968, and is located on more than 1,400 acres in the scenic Irish Hills area of southeastern Michigan.

It is considered to be a twin sister track to the Alberta Superspeedway, and has a very similar layout to the Texas World Speedway and the Auto Club Speedway.

Layout[edit | edit source]

Michigan's 2-mile D-oval layout has 43-foot wide straightaways (banked at 12 degrees on the frontstretch and 5 degrees on the backstretch) and 73-foot wide turns (banked at 18 degrees). Very high speeds can be achieved all the way around the track, making it somewhat dangerous.

The track also has several configurations of infield/outfield road courses. The outfield portion of the track hasn't been used for racing since the 1960's. Today, amateur sports car races are held on a course combining about one mile of the oval and an infield portion of the road course. The present layout can be run in both directions.

Past Events[edit | edit source]

The RROL Elite Series and the ARLA Thunder Trucks have raced here in the past. The track was to host the Vaughn Stock Car Championship and its lower-tier series, the Vaughn American Racing Tour, in 2011, but the series was shut down mid-season.

Current Use[edit | edit source]

The American Stock Car Championship is the most prominent stock car series currently racing at Michigan. The track also hosts the season opener for the AST Voltson Super Trucks, and is the largest oval track on the regional series' calendar.

Formula Overdrive has held events at Michigan in 2013 and 2014, and returned in 2018 and 2019 following its' hiatus.
