Pre-race storylines[edit | edit source]
The usually-decrepit Buffalo Downs dirt track received a major facelift and refurbishing in the offseason, as the new track owners, the Little family, made a major investment in the facility. The access road to the infield was widened, permanent seating was installed along the front stretch, the track resurfaced, new grass planted, and the pit lane was redone and paved.
In spite of all the improvements, OEN broadcaster Earl McDermott still said, "I'm still not sure why this track is on the schedule in the first place."
