The 2012 Wisconsin SuperPrix was the ninth round of the 2012 Formula Overdrive season. It was held at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Pre-race storylines[edit | edit source]

For the first time ever, the Hanmore Formula Overdrive series would act as a support race for a TM Master Cup Series race. Teams packed up and headed to the famous Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin to showcase their talents in front of the stock car owners and sponsors. It would be the first race after taking a late-summer break after the Atlanta race. There was some controversy surrounding Team Visit Ohio and driver Sulinder Pushanda, but thankfully it has died down and the teams could focus on the task at hand.

Summary[edit | edit source]

Recindo Gonzalez carried his momentum from the Atlanta win to put his No. 8 Red-Hot Race Wear ClarTech-powered machine on the pole. Ross Carter and Peter Kreamer put on impressive performances to qualify 2nd and 3rd respectively. Garry Carter and Kenny Morales rounded out the top five. Perhaps the most shocking qualifying result was that of points leader Chaud Roddick who could only muster a dismal 24th on the grid. It certainly did not help him that his main points rival put his car on the pole.

When the green flag came out, the field spread three and four wide heading into turn one, a heavy braking right hander. Gonzalez held his lead, but Garry Carter in the No. 92 moved from his 4th starting position to take second away from his son Ross coming out of the first corner, and had a huge run on Gonzalez heading down the long backstretch, and completed the pass for the lead into Station Five.

As the field spread out after the first lap, Cody Keaton and Ethan Gilreath fell off the pace considerably. It didn't help Gilreath's race when he promptly binned the car in the sand trap in the Carousel before getting stuck in the tire barriers.

Sara Gallagher in the No. 26 has been great on natural terrain courses during her short tenure on the circuit, but her race would end on Lap 2 after an alternator went south in her engine.

Up front, Garry Carter continued to lead, until Lap 5, when Recindo Gonzalez made a ballsy dive-bomb on the No. 92 to take the lead through the Kink, regarded as the fastest corner on the racetrack. It was clear early on that Gonzalez's car had come alive and he was not letting the title get away from him.

Cody Keaton had an awful day. This was easily his worst performance of the season, but because Road America is over four miles in length, no one was in sight to get caught up in his errors. He spun three times, once at Turn 8, and twice at Canada Corner before eventually throwing his No. 9 machine comically off the course in the Carousel, embedding himself in the tires. He refused medical attention and transportation to the medical center. Four hours after the race had concluded, Keaton still hadn't shown up to his pitbox, garage, or personal bus. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

Recindo Gonzalez extended his lead further, and still had the lead when pit stops cycled through. It was an easy victory for him, giving him his second straight win, and command of the points standings.
