Qualifying race[edit | edit source]

James West won the qualifying race despite leading only one lap – his first victory of any kind in 11 years. Elizabeth Cargill-Smith dominated the race, leading 17 of the 18 laps.

Ryan Baldwell made the race thanks to the past champion's provisional.

Did not qualify[edit | edit source]

Twenty-five drivers attempted to make the field for this race and failed to do so. Notable DNQ's were Andy Pearson, Bigsby Foote, and Brenda Riggs.

Notching their first career DNQ's were Hamilton Porteau, Roger Terlosky, and Matt Pearson.

The race[edit | edit source]

Ichiro Oshima took the pole in his No. 90 car. On his outside was defending series champion Kurt Walker.

Chris Jackson's engine let go on Lap 4, but officials declined to throw the caution flag. There would be a lead change on the next lap as Jared Andersen got around the No. 90. of Oshima.

Caution would fall on the track on Lap 7 as Jason Bates's car suddenly broke on him, leaving him stranded in the middle of the track. Alex Carson and Ryan Saloon ran into him, but neither would drop out. Bates would continue on as well, but would lose a lap from a combination of being towed back and having his car repaired.

On the restart, Bates would cause trouble for second place Tommy Piper, as he held him up and allowed Jared Andersen to gain an advantage, but soon enough Bates got his car going and soon was running lap times comparable to the leaders.

Afterwards, Allie Riggs surged towards the lead, but would not be able to take advantage, and eventually Oshima was able to regain the lead. Riggs tried a bonzai move in turn three a few laps later, but made contact with the No. 90 car and lost the second spot to Mario Franchetti, who would eventually take the lead.

Controversy flew on lap 22 when Nakano Satasumi divebombed his teammate Oshima, causing the No. 90 to wreck. Oshima was livid on the radio, but Satasumi was not that sympathetic towards him. On the restart, Satasumi took the lead.

The third and final caution of the day flew on Lap 28 as Michael White and Elizabeth Cargill-Smith made contact sending White into the wall and the No. 60 of Cargill-Smith dangerously out of control. Cargill-Smith missed everyone but the wall, but White would collect James West in the incident.

After the restart, Dale Underwood surged to the front and passed Nakano Satasumi with two laps to go. It appeared that Satasumi would again be The Chronic Bridesmaid, but he passed Underwood back with a power move entering Turn 1 on the last lap, and held Underwood off to claim the victory.
