Carlos Cardona (born February 23, 1996 in Sagunto, Valencia) is a Spanish racing driver. He rand three for Team Timothy in TM Lights in 2014 before being involved in a cheating scandal and was terminated from the team (see 2014).

Early life[edit | edit source]

Cardona became enthusiastic with racing cars since he was 5 years old. According to Cardona at a TV Interview with Antenna 3, he said that he and Juliana used to not get along well and frequently fought a lot over who is the fastest which resulted in a tense rivalry with each other during the time they were racing each other.

Success in Kart and Open Wheel Racing[edit | edit source]

Unlike many drivers, Carlos Cardona started his racing career in open-wheel racing. He started racing for the Spanish Karting Cadet Championship when he won his first karting title the following year. He moved to Formula K in 2007 when he continued his success winning 3 titles in 2008 and between 2010-2011 before moving to the Spanish Formula C Championship in 2012. Since 2012, he began to develop a rivalry with his older sister Juliana. Carlos won 3 out of 14 rounds with Juliana 1. They were both in contention for the FC title leading to the final race but an incident on the penultimate lap involving both drivers making contact, causing Carlos to spin out of the race and Juliana having to continue with front wing damage, and was also out of the race. They both lost the championship and Carlos finsihed 2nd overall with Juliana behind him in 3rd. After a private post-race confrontation with each other, Juliana decided to seek a ride with Formula B (Intermediate class of Formula A) in which she did with the Spanish Team, Carrera Repsol. Carlos remained with FC for 2013 when he enjoyed a more successful season. Winning the 2013 title with only 2 races to go, Cardona decided to switch to Stock Car Racing. His decision being is, because he has lost his motivation in Open-Wheel racing and that he no longer considers it his type of racing anymore.

2014[edit | edit source]

Cardona decided to move to America to seek a ride with Stock Cars. He managed to seek a deal with the Canadian Team, Team Timothy. After the team agreed to finalize the deal, Cardona signed for them to race in TM Lights for the 2014 season, partnering alongside Durane Ridman and Dillon Buchanan.

His debut in TM Lights started on a high, as he, alongside Ridman dominated for the majority of the race. For a moderate number of laps, Cardona was running in 2nd place while his teammate Ridman was leading after dominating for the early part of the race, until the collision with Troy Adams inherited the lead to Cardona. After another caution, Cardona lead again on the restart during the closing stages. The race soon ended behind the safety car, due to rain and Cardona took his first race win on his début alongside his other teammate Dillon Buchanan in 2nd forming a Team Timothy 1-2. After the race at Carbondale Raceway, however, it was announced that Cardona and Ridman's cars were illegal during all three rounds of the TM Lights season that had been run so far, and he was disqualified from the first three races. As a result, his race win was stripped and given to his teammate Dillon Buchanan, who's car was not illegal.

He was replaced by Bill Calhoun for the balance of the season.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

He is dating sports car driver Susanna Cordoba whom they first met in 2006 when they both raced for the Spanish Cadet Championship.
